On September 3, 2008, Welland, Ontario the hometown of CRS Electronics joined the LED City® initiative, an international program that promotes the deployment of energy efficient LED lighting. The City is using LED light engines co-developed by CRS Electronics and major streetlight fixture manufacturer to replace many of its street lights. Welland plans to amend its municipal standards to accommodate LED lighting for all future street light installations.
